Barn Dance AdviceFirstly a Barn dance is aimed at having fun, so please followed these guidlines to make it safe, as we don't want anyone to get hurt. Advise your guests to wear sensible shoes for dancing in. High heeled shoes are not the best or most comfortable to dance in. Indoors - Make sure that the floor is solid, flat, not polished and that it is even. Outdoors - If your event is in a barn, do make sure that there are no hazards for people to trip over. Marquee - please try to get some flooring large enough for the people to dance on, not just a postage stamp size suitable for a disco. If it is on grass you must be careful as people can trip over tufts of grass. Please do make sure that the band have adequate shelter from draughts, damp, dew, rain etc (you get hot when dancing, but the band does not!) and the equipment does not like getting wet either! Staging - if there is a stage, please make sure it is sturdy (we have been known to be given a rickety trailer to play on!) Power supply - It has to be SAFE to British Safety Standards (especially for barns and marqees), as if there is any doubt - we use circuit breakers, and if they fail, we will not plug in our expensive equipment, and therefore WILL NOT PLAY! We have heavy equipment to bring in, so parking space to be reserved as close to the stage area as possible, would be really appreciated. The band and Caller get thirsty when playing/Calling, and cannot easily go to get drinks, so it is appreciated if soft drinks are provided. Sometimes, we are away for several hours, it is also appreciated to have some light refreshments provided too. Rumbling tummies over the PA is not a good sound!
